Research tells us that student experience a “Summer Slide” in learning during the summer. The Summer Literacy Camp will assess each student’s academic competencies in language and math literacy and give them academic strategies for improvement. The Grand Rapids Ellington Academy of Arts and Technology’s Summer Literacy Camp is a multi-element program, targeting academic intervention and enrichment, as well as thematic exploration in the arts and technology. Studies show that the most effective means to reach all students is to structure learning around different learning modalities. We believe that both the Arts and Technology themes are effective in engaging these modalities and can better equip students for learning. The Summer Literacy Camp is a mandatory program for all Ellington Academy students and will run 3 weeks in the summer.
